Sprayable Solar Cells May Reach the Market in 3 Years

Calif.-based Innovalight believes its “solar ink” may reach the commercial market in just three years. The company is trying to process light-absorbing materials into nanoparticles that could be used to coat roofs. To compete with traditional solar panels, these solar cells that are sprayable and paintable would need to convert at least 15% of sunlight absorbed into solar energy. So far, it has reached a conversion rate of 1%. Founder Brian Korgel says his technology has the potential to cut the cost of installing solar cells to 1/10 of the current price.
